A note on the map used for the Stevens apartment: the area immediately after the main door is lower than the rest of the house. This is a common feature (a genkan) in most Japanese houses, which the map is likely based from. The panels show Kate looking like she’s standing lower than Linda because she is actually standing in the genkan, ready to leave the house; whereas Linda is still at home, in her uniform, getting ready to leave for school a bit later.
